Dee-1 is on assignment.

He is in the trenches of hip-hop culture, navigating one of the most idolatrous communities in entertainment, and doing it with grace, with truth, and with the kind of prophetic boldness that does not flinch when it meets resistance. His Platinum Pledge, a declaration to denounce the glorification of sex, money, violence, and drugs and to righteously influence the youth through music, has nearly six figures worth of signatures. Charlemagne the God is one of them. A shift is happening. The people are tired. And Dee-1 is one of the vessels the Lord is using to move them out of the mentality that says glorifying darkness for a check is acceptable, and into the mind of Christ that says we are called to something higher.

But this clip was not just about Dee-1. It was about the conversation he had. And that conversation is worth sitting with.

Big Bank asked the questions that a lot of people are asking. He pushed back on the Bible. He said he believes some of it is cap. He brought up slavery. He asked which Testament we trust. He said he did not really want to know the answers, just wanted to see if they could be made to make sense. And honestly, I appreciate him for that, because he was not alone in those questions. He was the voice of many, and I respect the fact that he said out loud what most people only think to themselves.

Here is what I want us to take from that exchange. When we encounter a scripture that feels like cap, what we are usually bumping up against is not error in the Word. We are bumping up against the ceiling of our own carnal understanding. His ways are not our ways. His thoughts are not our thoughts. And leaning on our own understanding, our own logic, our own intelligence, will leave us in a place of confusion every single time. This is exactly why the Holy Spirit exists. Not to make the Word palatable to our natural minds, but to lead us into all truth, past the limits of what our flesh can process on its own.

The Bible contains the full truth of humanity, including its ugliness. Murder is in there. Betrayal is in there. Slavery is in there. Not as endorsements, but as a mirror held up to the wickedness of the flesh, and as a backdrop to the redemption that was always the point. And when it comes to slavery specifically, what many of us have not yet encountered is the depth of what that word carries in scripture. There is natural slavery and there is spiritual slavery. There is indentured servitude rooted in ancient economic systems and there is the bondage of a soul that has not yet met its Redeemer. The Word must be examined in a variety of ways before we can say we truly understand what it is saying.

As for the Old and New Testaments being in conflict, they are not. You cannot fully appreciate the New without the Old. Christ did not come to cancel the story. He came to complete it. The Old Testament is the foundation. The New Testament is the fulfillment. Both contain truth. Both are necessary. And together they form a living Word, not a regular book, but a book that breathes, that speaks, that teaches, that refines, that transforms, and that develops the character of anyone willing to commune with what they have read.

I do not have every answer. You do not either. But what I took from this clip more than anything is the reminder of how to show up when someone brings their questions and their doubts to the table. Not with condescension. Not with impatience. With grace, love, and respect.

Back in March, I wrote something about Chrisean Rock that I want you to go back and read if you have not already.

I was not writing about a celebrity. I was writing about a vessel. I was writing about what it looks like when God plants a seed in public and tends to it whether the audience believes in the harvest or not.

I said then that what we were watching was not a redemption arc. It was a resurrection.

I want to come back to that now because more fruit has appeared.

She just released “Help” with Tim Bowman Jr. and Faith City Music.

And when I tell you the lyrics are not a performance, I need you to hear me. This is a woman testifying in real time. She is rapping about breaking generational curses. She is talking about getting on her knees. She is saying out loud that Jesus Christ took away her sins and died on the cross and that her faith is not decoration. It is direction.

And then she pivots and calls her community to stop killing each other. To unify. To read the Bible. To show kings and queens how to build self-confidence. That is not an artist chasing a gospel bag. That is a woman who has been changed and cannot stop talking about it.

This is what fruit looks like. Not perfection. Not a cleaned-up image. Fruit. The thing that grows when the root is real.

Galatians 5:22 tells us that the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith. You do not produce that fruit by managing your reputation. You produce it by staying connected to the vine. John 15:5 says it plainly. Without Him, you can do nothing. With Him, the fruit comes on its own.

What I am watching in Chrisean is someone who found the vine and held on. The fruit is not something she manufactured. It grew. And now it is visible to everyone with eyes to see it.

Philippians 1:6 was the word I anchored that March article to without even quoting it directly. He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it. That is not a suggestion. That is a promise with a track record.

He started something. He is performing it.

Go find the song. Sit with the lyrics. And then come back and tell me that is not the Word of God working through a willing vessel.

The book of Chrisean is still being written. And the chapters keep getting richer.

Most of us never stopped to ask God what fun was actually supposed to look like. We just followed the crowd, leaned on our own understanding, and called it a good time. But that was always the warning hiding in plain sight. Scripture said wine is a mocker and strong drink is a brawler, and whoever gets pulled in by it lacks wisdom.

Not character. Not willpower. Wisdom. The kind that only comes from actually seeking Him on the question.

Deliverance from the spirit of alcohol is not a small thing. It is evidence that God still moves on behalf of people who were never trying to be a problem. They were just never taught what freedom could feel like sober.

Rotimi found out. And now you know it is possible.

Walk with me……….

What we’re witnessing with Druski’s viral skit is a perfect example of art imitating life. He’s mirroring back to us, by way of satirical comedy, the perception of the Church to the world. And before we react, let’s take a breath and remember what Scripture tells us: we are the Church—the body, the people—not the building, not the institution, not the brand.

Now, I want to be clear about something: this isn’t every church, and it certainly isn’t every pastor or leader. We know that. But if we’re going to walk in truth with one another, we have to be honest and admit that what Druski portrayed is a reflection of many. And we can’t afford to be in denial about that reality.

I understand the instinct to protect. I really do. We’re loyal to our communities, we honor our leaders, and we don’t like seeing believers or those we respect embarrassed, mocked, or humiliated in front of the world. That protective instinct? It’s actually beautiful. It shows you care deeply about the witness of the faith.

But I want to invite you to pause and consider something with me: What if this is God’s doing? What if He’s using the foolish things of the world to confound the wise in this very moment? What if this uncomfortable mirror is actually mercy?

I wouldn’t be so quick to call this blasphemous. Because when I watch that skit, I don’t see Druski mocking God. I don’t see him mocking the true children of God—those who genuinely love the Lord, serve His people, and steward His Word with integrity. What I see him mocking are the wolves in sheep’s clothing. The religious cosplayers. Those who perform Christianity but don’t practice it. Those who dress up as shepherds but behave like hirelings.

Scripture warns us about this repeatedly. We’re told about those who have a form of godliness but deny its power. Those who draw near with their lips while their hearts are far from Him. Those who shut the door of the kingdom in people’s faces—not entering themselves and preventing others from entering. Those who devour widows’ houses and make long prayers for show. Those who love greetings in the marketplaces and the best seats, who wear their religiosity like costumes for public applause.

These aren’t children of God. These are children of the world wearing the wardrobe of the faith.

And here’s what I think is happening: satire, at its core, has always been a “full dish”—a deliberate mixture of humor and critique designed to expose foolishness, vice, and hypocrisy. It’s uncomfortable by design. And throughout history, God has used uncomfortable things to get our attention when we’ve stopped listening to gentle correction.

When shepherds have prioritized themselves—consuming the best, clothing themselves in luxury, enjoying the benefits while failing to strengthen the weak, heal the sick, or bind up the injured—God has raised up voices to call it out. Sometimes those voices come from prophets. Sometimes they come from poets. And sometimes, they come from comedians.

The world is clocking what we refuse to address amongst ourselves.

And maybe that’s the real invitation here. Maybe this viral moment isn’t primarily about Druski at all. Maybe it’s about us—the body—being called to examine our own houses. To ask ourselves: Have we created space for honest accountability within our communities? Do we practice constructive criticism with humility? Can someone lovingly correct leadership without being labeled divisive, disrespectful, or rebellious? Or do we shut down truth-tellers with “touch not mine anointed” and spiritual-sounding deflections?

Because if we’re not willing to address the religious cosplayers among us, the world will continue to do it for us. And they won’t do it gently.

Scripture is clear about what leadership should look like: servant-hearted, not self-serving. Humble, not hungry for power. Temperate and self-controlled, not lovers of money or power. Examples to the flock, not lords over them. Shepherding willingly, not exploiting for personal gain. These leaders don’t make God’s house a marketplace. They don’t perform their piety for applause. They serve in the shadows and let their fruit speak.

But when leadership does the opposite—when they operate like the religious cosplayers Jesus Himself confronted—satire becomes a prophetic mirror. It reflects what we’ve normalized. It exposes what we’ve excused.

Now, does this represent every church? Absolutely not. Does it represent every leader? Of course not. But can we honestly say it doesn’t represent the majority of what the world sees when they think of “church”? Can we deny that prosperity theatrics, performance-based spirituality, and clergy who live like celebrities have become the dominant public face of American Christianity?

If your first instinct is to defend the faithful 5%, I get it. Celebrate those leaders. Learn from them. Support them. Sit under their teaching. But also, be clear-eyed and honest about the 95% that Druski’s skit is actually addressing. Because that’s where the world’s perception is being shaped.

If anything, let this moment be an invitation—not to condemnation, but to examination. Let it motivate you to get locked in Christ. To root yourself deeply in the Word so you can discern the difference between genuine shepherds and religious cosplayers. To seek out teaching and counsel from real men and women of God, not entertainers packaged as preachers.

Because there is a difference. And you were made to know it.
