Shut Up
"Why is it so hard to get into Christian culture?" I asked the Gen Zer.
"I'm gonna be honest with you twin," he said. "It just looks boring."
I nodded. "I know."
"And the way y'all obsessively feel the need to constantly teach and preach—can't just relax and be," he continued. "It just makes you want to say shut up."
"It does," I admitted.
Because it's true. We've forgotten how to sit back and just be people. Flawed, imperfect people still wrestling with flesh daily. Instead, we give off this "Goody Two-shoes, I've got it all figured out" vibe that screams catch up and be like me.
It's a turnoff.
Here's what I've realized: even the Holy Spirit tells you to shut up sometimes. The Holy Spirit cares about timing, about delivery. The Holy Spirit doesn't want us moving in obsessive, compulsive ways.
But that religious spirit? It has us so busy preaching the Word that we forget to just live it.
We can't even have a conversation without quoting chapter and verse, then launching into a sermon.
Only a Holy Spirit-led lifestyle can produce true Christlike normalcy. Because let's be honest—there's a huge difference between those led by the Spirit and those led by flesh.
It's literally no comparison.
