On this day when fireworks light up the sky and freedom rings across America, there's a deeper liberation story that transcends every earthly celebration.
Siblings In Christ, what's good? Listen!
Happy Salvation Day. Happy Everlasting Life Day.
Happy Freedom in Christ Day. Happy Child of God Day.
This is what type of time I'm on—this is what we need to celebrate today and every day. While our nation commemorates breaking free from British rule on July 4th, 1776, believers celebrate breaking free from Satan's rule through the cross. Most biblical scholars, weighing astronomical evidence and historical records, believe this ultimate Independence Day occurred on April 3rd, AD 33—though some propose April 7th, AD 30. Regardless of the exact date, what remains certain is that Christ's victory over spiritual tyranny is the most documented liberation in human history.
The freedom and independence we have in Christ is the freedom and independence we have in the kingdom of God. It's the freedom and independence we have in the realm of the spirit. That's my 4th of July!
As Scripture declares: "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." This is the foundation of our celebration—true liberation through Christ. Just as our founding fathers declared independence from tyranny, Christ declared our independence from sin, death, and hell itself.
Victory Over Principalities and Powers
Picture this: while American patriots shed their blood for political freedom that would last centuries, Christ shed His blood for eternal freedom that lasts forever. Christ laid down His life so that we can be free from the spiritual enslavement of this world—the bondage we were under from the principalities, rulers, and darkness and cosmic powers in high places that had us enslaved. Do you hear what the Spirit of understanding is saying?
Scripture reveals this truth: "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Yet Christ conquered these very forces that held us captive. Where the American Revolution lasted eight years, Christ's victory was won in three days—crucified, buried, and risen with all power in His hands.
They crucified Christ because they wanted to be able to use the principles of our God to enslave His creation, and Christ said no. "They shall be free and independent in me." As Jesus Himself proclaimed: "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." This isn't just freedom from external oppression—this is freedom from the very nature of sin that kept us bound.
More Than Political Independence: A Revolution of the Soul
So happy freedom in Christ day—that's what today is. While America gained independence from one king, we gained independence from the king of darkness himself. This isn't just about celebrating political independence from earthly powers. This is about recognizing that we are not only free and independent in the realm of the spirit and here on Earth in Christ today, but every day—and even after we die, we are still free and independent because we have received the gift of everlasting life.
The Word promises us: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." This eternal freedom extends beyond any earthly celebration or temporal independence. No constitution can guarantee what Christ guarantees—life that never ends, peace that passes understanding, and joy unspeakable.
Jesus Christ laid down His life so that we might experience true liberation—not just from human oppression, but from spiritual bondage itself. As it is written: "You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness." We traded masters—from serving sin and death to serving life and righteousness.
Living Your Declaration of Independence Daily
But here's what makes this freedom practical: "And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." Every day you wake up, you're living in the reality of your spiritual Declaration of Independence. When anxiety tries to enslave your mind, you declare: "I am free in Christ." When sin tries to trap you in old patterns, you declare: "I am a new creation." When circumstances try to overwhelm you, you declare: "Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world."
A Call to Celebrate and Live Free
Drop a comment and celebrate with me. Let's acknowledge that while we commemorate our nation's independence today, we can also rejoice in the eternal freedom that transcends any earthly celebration. This is freedom that no principality, no ruler, no cosmic power can take away—because it's sealed with the blood of the Lamb.
Scripture reminds us of our true identity: "See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!" As children of God, we walk in the liberty that Christ purchased for us. We're not just free from something—we're free TO something: to worship, to serve, to love without fear, to live abundantly.
"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom." This July 4th, remember you are a child of God, free and independent in Christ, with everlasting life secured through His ultimate sacrifice. This is the freedom worth celebrating—not just today, but every day of our lives and throughout eternity.
So, while others celebrate with burgers and barbecues, we celebrate with praise and proclamation. While they wave flags, we wave hands in worship. Because the greatest Independence Day in history wasn't July 4th, 1776—it was that day in AD 33 when Christ rose from the dead, making every believer eternally free.
