I literally just closed out an amazing therapeutic social audio room this morning that I hosted on the Fanbase app, titled "Why Did God Give Us Emotions?" The room was so much better than I thought it was going to be - very impromptu, very much impulsive and out of nowhere. Just how I like it. But it was right on time.
First off, I just want to say the community that the Lord has blessed me with on Fanbase is absolutely priceless. They cool people - so kind, loving, supportive - and I love them real bad.
What We Discussed
Continuing on, we talked about why God gave us emotions. The general consensus was that God gave us emotions to use as a supporting tool of discernment. I mean, that's not exactly the particular wording of everyone in the room, but that is how I'm summing it up. And if you really ponder on that... you could feel me, right?
Someone in the room stated that God gave us emotions to strengthen human connection. I thought that was brilliant. I thought that made all the sense.
But then someone else also stated how using emotions alongside the spirit of discernment is absolutely not advised. It might teeter along the lines of foolishness.
The Questions That Remain
With that being said, what I'm seeing is I don't know if the shepherds of the sheep have clearly defined the role emotions play in our relationship with God.
- How do we glorify the Lord by way of our emotions?
- How do we serve Him with our emotions?
- How do we serve others with our emotions?
- What do our emotions truly do for us?
These are questions that need answers. And I'm not going to pretend like I have all the answers, but I will admit that I have a hunch and an intense inquisition and curiosity that may just drive me to seek the Lord about those answers.
Where I Stand
I'm not writing this post from a place of "here are the answers I have" in regard to the question of why God gave us emotions. I'm writing this post from the position of "the jury's still out." I'm still very much in a place of speculation, skepticism, and inquiry about the answer to this question.
So, help me out. Drop a comment letting me know why you think God gave us emotions. And how about we just pick this conversation up in a future post when I have more answers?
But for now, I guess you could say I'm presenting a hypothesis of sorts or a moment of compare and contrast - the pros and cons of maybe why God gave us emotions.
I guess we can just say that I am speculating.
Until next time. Stay locked in Christ.
That was a dope conversation!
